P.M. BRIEFING : Jobless Benefit Requests Up 10%

WASHINGTON —
New applications for unemployment benefits rose to a seasonally adjusted 334,000 in the week ended May 27 from 303,000 the week before, the Labor Department said today.
The number of people actually receiving benefits under regular state programs was 2,118,000 in the week ended May 20, the latest period for which that figure was available.
That was an increase from 2,034,000 in the previous week.
