DUBLIN, Ireland — Almost six out of 10 young Irish people have considered emigrating in the last year, according to an opinion poll published Wednesday.
Irish Prime Minister Charles Haughey, who has called a general election for June 15, has pledged in his campaign to stamp out what he calls the twin evils of Ireland--unemployment and emigration.
The poll in the Irish Independent newspaper showed that 58% of those questioned under the age of 25 had seriously considered emigration. Up to half the population of Ireland is aged under 25.
