JACKSON, Miss. — The Jackson Daily News, one of Mississippi’s largest’s newspapers, ceased publication today in its 98th year.
The Gannett Co. afternoon paper, which has been losing circulation, will merge with its sister morning publication, the Clarion-Ledger, Monday.
John Johnson, executive editor of both newspapers, said the merger will increase the news staff from about 88 to 116 and there will be no layoffs.
The estimated circulation of the merged newspapers is 102,000 daily.
