Two big job changes in the local real estate industry: Stefan Markowitz was named president of Barratt Irvine, a unit of the British home builder, and John W. Bodenburg became president of the Newport Beach office of commercial real estate broker Lee & Associates.

Markowitz, 29, will oversee Barratt’s subdivisions in Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside counties, where Barratt builds more than 600 homes a year. He will report to Mark Frazier, president of Barratt American, the company’s U.S. subsidiary.

Markowitz, of El Toro, joined the company in 1986 as director of acquisitions, where he directed the purchase of 400 acres in Mission Viejo, one of last year’s biggest land buys in Southern California. Before joining Barratt, Markowitz managed a real estate portfolio for Butterfield Savings & Loan.

Bodenburg left Norris, Beggs & Simpson, a competitor where he had been a vice president and regional manager since 1986.

Under an unusual organizational structure, each office of Lee & Associates operates as a separate corporation. As a group, Lee ranks as one of the biggest brokerages in Southern California, with offices in El Toro, Rancho Cucamonga, Santa Ana, Riverside and the South Bay.
