Bush Picks Vatican Envoy

WASHINGTON — President Bush said Friday that he will nominate Thomas P. Melady, former president of a Catholic university in Connecticut, as U.S. ambassador to the Vatican. Melady, who would succeed Frank Shakespeare, was ambassador to Burundi and Uganda in the Richard M. Nixon Administration.
