Sullivan’s review was one of his best. If “Phantom” had opened in 1939 while “Too Many Girls” was playing at the Imperial Theater, Larry Hart might have greeted it with something like this:
Broadway’s “Phantom” is baloney, With a book by Mrs. Glyn. Please don’t give this show a Tony-- Give it back to the Indians!
