Share

United Services Automobile Assn. has become the first to announce that it will comply with Proposition 103’s 20% rate rollback on homeowner’s policies. However, the Texas-based company warned its customers in a letter not to expect a similar cut in their auto insurance rates. Marine and renters’ rates and rates for earthquake endorsements to homeowner policies also will remain the same. United Services, whose membership is restricted to past and present military officers and their families, insures 104,000 California homeowners, the sixth highest number in California. It is among the hundreds of companies asking the state to exempt it from having to roll back car insurance rates as required by Proposition 103. State Insurance Commissioner Roxani Gillespie will decide which companies should be exempted in order to receive a fair profit.
