Two regiments of regular Iranian troops have been deployed in Lebanon and more are expected, a Jordanian newspaper said, quoting Foreign Minister Marwan Kassem. He told the Jordan Times that the Iranian military presence in Lebanon is a foreign attempt to divide the country into sectarian mini-states. Diplomats in Lebanon said last month that 1,500 Iranian Revolutionary Guards had arrived by way of Damascus in May, joining 2,000 guards already stationed in the country.
