Housing and Urban Development Secretary Jack Kemp vowed to move forward with new programs despite wide-ranging investigations into alleged corruption by HUD contractors and other government officials. “We cannot stop important development projects just because of that problem,” Kemp said during a tour of innovative state-coordinated housing programs in three Massachusetts cities. Kemp’s visit followed a weekend report that contractors working for HUD have embezzled millions of dollars from sales of homes seized through foreclosure.
