WORLD : Cuban Transport Minister Fired
Cuba’s transport minister and one of 10 vice presidents of the Council of Ministers, Diocles Torralbas, has been removed from his job for “personal behavior,” the official newspaper Granma said today.
Diplomats said the phrasing could point to a serious case of corruption.
Granma did not say whether Torralbas, who fought alongside President Fidel Castro in the rebel army before the 1959 revolution, has been given another job.
The Communist Party Politburo proposed the dismissal. “More than related to his work as minister, the decision was based on the personal behavior of Comrade Diocles Torralbas about which his attention had been drawn repeatedly without his being able to correct it,” Granma said without elaborating.
