GOP’s Standing in the House

Share

When Republicans complain about the 35 years of Democratic control of the House of Representatives they are reporting their lack of appeal to “the folks back home.”

When GOP Whip Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) totes a hit list of 8 to 10 Democrats, is there any reason to believe that Republicans would fare any better in the next elections were he to scare those 8 or 10 out of office?

Perhaps they would gain by replacing the “hit list” with a positive program to address the problems of concern to the “folks back home.” Such as:

* Education to bring America back into the mainstream of world executive management, science, industry, trade advantages, and political standing.

* A national health insurance program for better life styles and increased worker productivity.

* Materially reduce military spending. Glasnost and perestroika are spreading worldwide.

* Stop the plunder of public coffers by the industrial-military collusion and a Pentagon unable to administer its programs without financially devastating the nation it is supposed to protect.

* Revamp our judicial system to reduce compromise by political selections when interpreting codes of justice to assure equality under law.

* Reduce poverty through better job training and placement programs which meet nationwide employment needs.

* Reduce homelessness through more affordable housing.

* Provide a government that is more a conservator and less a predator of our natural resources.

* Protect the natural environment and control toxic wastes so that both animals and humans can survive to jointly assure preservation of the global ecological-sociological system they have created together in their evolutions. Separate survival is as yet unproven.

* Work for a United Nations updated to serve world interdependence by which we live; protect the people of the emerging nations from their spoliators; permit their integration into the community of nations to become partners in its exchange of benefits.

Trading the Republican Party “hit list” for the above courses of action is more in keeping with world trends.

A “hit list” navigational map provides no clue to destination. Quo vadis , Republicans?
