Close Call: Taiwanese Shot in Neck, Teeth
- Share via
TAIPEI, Taiwan — A Taiwan journalist narrowly escaped death in Beijing’s Tian An Men Square 10 days ago when a bullet struck him in the back of the neck and came out through his mouth, punching a hole in his front teeth, doctors say.
Francisco Hsu, 31, a reporter for the China Times, was shot June 4 when tanks and troops stormed into the square to crush a pro-democracy movement, killing hundreds and perhaps thousands.
The doctors say the bullet just missed his spine and carved semicircles in his top and bottom rows of teeth. His wounds are healing, they say.
