Thousands of Iranian students marched through the streets of Tehran to show their support for President Ali Khamenei as the successor as spiritual leader to the late Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini. The marchers pledged their allegiance to Khamenei as the new leader of the Islamic republic. Tehran Radio said students in other cities held similar marches to show their allegiance to Khamenei, who was elected spiritual leader of the republic June 4, less than 24 hours after Khomeini’s death.
