Indicted U.S. District Judge Robert P. Aguilar will accept no new cases and will hear only a few pending matters while he fights racketeering charges, Chief District Judge William A. Ingram announced in San Francisco. Ingram said Aguilar intends to finish a civil jury trial on alleged San Jose police brutality. Aguilar, 58, has been charged in an eight-count federal grand jury indictment with conspiracy, racketeering, obstruction of justice and disclosing an electronic wiretap to an alleged former mob assassin. About 30 criminal and 20 civil matters involving the government and hundreds of other civil matters will be reassigned to judges in San Jose and San Francisco.
