Actor Rex Harrison Knighted in Queen’s Annual Honors List

Veteran British actor Rex Harrison received a knighthood today in a traditional annual honors list marking the official birthday of Queen Elizabeth II.

Harrison, 81, began acting in 1924 and won an Oscar for his best-known role as Prof. Henry Higgins in the 1964 movie “My Fair Lady.”

A fellow movie star, former President Ronald Reagan, received an honorary knighthood from the queen on Wednesday.

900 Awards Bestowed

The queen bestowed more than 900 awards for meritorious service in all walks of life.

One of the most prestigious awards went to astronomy professor Stephen Hawking, who was made a Companion of Honor (CH), a group limited to 65 people whose members include former Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Elliott Trudeau and author Graham Greene.

Actor Ian Holm, 58, was made a commander of the British Empire (CBE). He won a best supporting actor Oscar in the 1984 film “Chariots of Fire.”
