Scratching Deeper

Regarding Carol Przybycien’s June 11 letter: She worries that attractions such as Disneyland’s “Pirates of the Caribbean” foster sexism. Her fears are founded. When she claims that it depicts “slave/bride auctions . . . auctions that resulted in rapes,” she’s only touching the surface.

Really, Ms. Przybycien, how could you pass up the opportunity to point out that Peter Pan and his boys think that women, such as Wendy, are good only for being mothers . . . that Alice and her hallucinogenic mushrooms and her pipe-smoking caterpillar pal encourage drug use among our young . . . that the “Haunted House” seance room and scampering ghosts promote belief in the afterlife (worse yet, dare I say, Satanism) . . . and “It’s a Small World” is blatantly ageist.

Don’t even get me started on those little, mechanical horse rides outside of K-mart.
