Nobu McCarthy today becomes the artistic director of East West Players, the second person to hold the title in the 24-year history of Los Angeles’ most prominent Asian-American theater company. Her predecessor, Mako, resigned after an artistic dispute with the company’s board last January. McCarthy, a Japanese-American actress, appeared with Mako in the movie “The Wash” last year and recently directed “Webster Street Blues” at East West. She has also appeared in “Karate Kid II” and has taught drama at Cal State Los Angeles.
