A Chrysler Corp. spokesman said today that the auto maker will begin returning its handful of U.S. workers to Beijing this week after being assured by Chinese officials that the situation is safe.

Chrysler spokesman Steve Harris said the nation’s No. 3 car maker will return two U.S. consultants to Beijing Jeep Corp. starting this week and eight U.S. employees next month.

“The chairman of Beijing Jeep is telling us things are safe and that things are returning to normal,” Harris said. “He has said the parts flow seems to be normal and the demonstration seems to be over.”
