Nunchakus sound as tortuously ominous as the brutal force behind the somewhat liberal and reckless use of them.

Are we to believe that peaceful demonstrators pose a danger to life and limbs that the disgusting use of what can best be described as a torture contraption is the police’s only answer?

The only time the use of force should be permitted, surely, is when there’s an imminent threat to police officers. How could there be any threat from men and women who sit, pray and sing?

I am sure every protester is prepared to go to jail for his or her beliefs. Must they be nunchakued in the process? Authority should not hide behind a mask of uncontrolled power, lest its true colors be revealed. Remember also that people power, peacefully generated in a democratic society, cannot be extinguished by brute force.

As someone has cynically said: After nunchakus , what’s next? Mace, whips, guns, tanks?
