Donald Dayton, Retail Stores’ Executive, Dies

MINNEAPOLIS — Donald Dayton, one of five brothers who built the Dayton’s department stores into a retailing giant, died of cancer Thursday night. He was 74.
Dayton, a grandson of the Minneapolis firm’s founder, had served as the company’s president and chairman. He also was a leader in Minneapolis civic affairs and politics.
