A 33-year-old man who skipped bail during his murder trial in 1986 in Massachusetts was sentenced Monday to 33 years in federal prison for another homicide committed here while a fugitive.

Glenn Silva of New Bedford, Mass., was sentenced for the Aug. 31 killing of Cpl. Robert Winters Jr., 24, who was shot in the back at the Camp Pendleton Marine Base, where Winters was stationed.

Silva pleaded guilty to first-degree murder earlier this year and on Monday was sentenced to prison by U. S. District Judge Earl Gilliam.

According to Assistant U. S. Atty. Larry Burns, Silva skipped out on his bail while on trial in 1986 for the 1984 fatal shooting of Leslie Offley, 28.

Burns asked Gilliam to impose 28 years for the murder and an extra five years for using a gun in the commission of a felony. No fine was imposed, but he could have been fined $500,000.
