“Metamorphosis,” which stars dance superstar Mikhail Baryshnikov in an acting role, will cut short its Broadway run by two weeks, closing this Saturday instead of July 15. The play will have run for 97 performances and five previews. Baryshnikov, who was nominated for a Tony Award for his portrayal of a clerk who turns into a giant insect, reportedly is headed for a movie role in “Dinosaurs” with Gene Hackman. Last week, he surprised the dance world by announcing that he will leave his position as artistic director at American Ballet Theatre at the end of its 1990 season.
