Efforts by Greek Prime Minister Andreas Papandreou to form a coalition government from his hospital bed ended with a rebuff from the Communist alliance. Harilaos Florakis, leader of the Coalition of the Left and Progress, said proposals from Papandreou’s Panhellenic Socialist Movement are “just as interesting” as those made last week by Constantine Mitsotakis, head of the conservative New Democracy Party. Florakis said he favors a “widely accepted” government headed neither by Papandreou nor Mitsotakis. Meanwhile, a medical bulletin said the health of Papandreou, 70, is “continually improving.” He was hospitalized for pneumonia and developed kidney and heart complications.
