Couple Get 6 Months in Swindling Scheme
A Newbury Park couple were sentenced to six months each in Los Angeles County Jail for swindling customers of their wood-products business by taking money for quality goods but delivering inferior ones or none at all.
Van Nuys Municipal Court Judge Isabel Cohen also ordered Ronald Huber, 39, and his wife, Julie Huber, 37, to pay up to $30,000 in restitution to their victims.
The Hubers were sentenced after admitting that their activities in operating a Ventura County custom-door business violated the terms of their probation from a previous conviction.
In 1986, Cohen sentenced Julie Huber to 165 days in County Jail and her husband to 150 days behind bars after they pleaded no contest to a similar swindle. The couple also were placed on three years unsupervised probation.
