Apartment Survey : Rental Units on the Increase
The number of apartments in Irvine has more than tripled since 1984, and rental units have more than doubled in Placentia and San Juan Capistrano. On the other hand, three county communities--Fountain Valley, Seal Beach and Yorba Linda--didn’t add a single apartment from the end of 1984 to the end of 1988.
Countywide, the number of apartments increased 15.4% during the period to 176,770, according to data compiled by the Census Bureau, local planning departments and Research Network Ltd. Anaheim, the county’s most populous city, led in the number of apartments at the end of the period with 28,897, an increase of 10.1%.
More than half of the apartments in the county have two bedrooms, according to the data. The average rent for a one-bedroom apartment was $668 a month at the end of 1988, and the average for a two-bedroom, two-bathroom apartment was $848.
