HEALTH : Frenchman Hits U.S. Abortion Rule
French Health Minister Claude Evin today condemned the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to restrict access to abortion, saying women have an “inviolable right” to make free choices about their pregnancies.
“Neither prohibition nor suppression has ever stopped a woman who doesn’t want to be pregnant from having an abortion,” the Socialist minister said in a statement published in the daily Le Figaro.
“What is happening in the United States at the moment is unthinkable in France.”
Evin said the decision to have an abortion is already painful enough for women without making them feel guilty by reopening “this old debate.”
