President Bush, eager not to be overshadowed by the European allies on tackling environmental problems, will emphasize “steady, long-term commitments” to those issues during next week’s economic summit meeting in Paris, a top adviser said. Bush will discuss a variety of U.S. environmental concerns, including atmospheric ozone depletion, ocean dumping, deforestation, air pollution and global warming, according to William K. Reilly, administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. Reilly, speaking to reporters in Washington, did not outline specific proposals but said the President will do so during his European trip.
