Hammil Wins Speedway Scratch Main Event
Billy Hammil of Monrovia won the scratch main event for the second consecutive week in front of 2,239 in the weekly speedway program at the Orange County Fairgrounds in Costa Mesa Friday.
Eddie Castro of Ojai was second and Mike Faria of Colton was third. The race was restarted when fans threw cups on the course after Steve Lucero was disqualified for trying to cut in on Hammil during a turn.
In the eight-lap handicap main event, Alan Christian of Murrieta won, Sam Ermolenko of Cypress was second, Faria was third and Hammil was fourth.
In the feature match race, Bobby Schwartz defeated Brad Oxley in a best of three matchup.
The second-division winner was Mike Stepanenko from Redondo Beach.
