Wife-Slayer Convicted of Trying to Murder Boss

A former Internal Revenue Service employee convicted in the Christmas Day, 1986, killing of his wife was found guilty Saturday of attempted murder in a firebomb attack on his former boss.

Robert S. Treff, 33, of Provo was convicted of the attempted murder of Carol Fay, director of the IRS Salt Lake District Office; assault with a Molotov cocktail; possession of the device, and use of a firearm in commission of a violent crime.

Treff already is serving up to 15 years in prison on his earlier manslaughter conviction for the Dec. 25, 1986, shooting death of his wife, Jennifer. The attack on Fay occurred the same day.
