Fluor and Great Western Targeted: The Los Angeles chapter of the United Shareholders Assn., a shareholder rights group founded by Texas oilman T. Boone Pickens Jr., said it targeted Fluor Corp. and Great Western Financial for activist shareholder proposals at next year’s annual meetings. The proposals, part of an effort aimed at several companies nationwide deemed to be poor on shareholder rights, will seek approval of confidential voting in corporate elections, elimination of “poison pill” anti-takeover strategies, requiring shareholder approval of “golden parachutes” and forcing companies incorporated in states with anti-shareholder statutes to exempt themselves from coverage under the laws.
