A 12-year-old Huntington Beach boy who was run over by a truck as he rode his bicycle Saturday has died at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital and Medical Center.

Bryon Vaughan was riding on Warner Avenue near Ross Street in Fountain Valley in the lane nearest the curb when his bike collided with a 20-foot panel truck owned by Two Wheel Transit Authority, Police Sgt. Larry Griswold said.

The truck was coming out of a company driveway when the boy apparently hit the truck, police said. The driver apparently did not see the bicyclist before impact, Griswold said. The boy suffered massive chest injuries and died just before midnight Sunday.

The boy was riding against traffic, a violation of state law, Griswold said. “He should have been with the flow of traffic.”

No charges were filed against the driver but the incident is still being investigated.

Bryon apparently was riding with other boys, but they were on the other side of Warner Avenue and did not see the accident. Griswold said there were no other witnesses.
