WORLD : Kidnapers Free Mutilated Hostage
Kidnapers who abducted a wealthy landowner Dec. 28 and later cut off his ear to show they meant business freed him today, police said.
The family of Marzio Perrini reportedly paid a $1.5-million ransom after the gang sent his ear to a Rome newspaper last week, the ANSA news agency reported.
Perrini, 64, was picked up by a squad car on a highway in southern Italy about 1 a.m.
Relatives said Perrini told them that the abduction was a “terrible nightmare” and that he was kept blindfolded and chained to a cot for six months.
