Cetus Drug Approved in Denmark: Cetus Corp. of Emeryville, Calif., says Denmark has granted marketing approval for the company’s interleukin-2, a cancer-fighting drug. Denmark became the first nation to grant such approval for the drug, which Cetus spent eight years and more than $100 million to develop. The drug is a genetically engineered hormone that stimulates the body’s immune system. The company is seeking approval in the United States and Europe to market interleukin-2, initially as a treatment for a rare form of kidney cancer. Cetus has retained full rights to the drug and will sell the drug through distributors or through its wholly owned subsidiary, Eurocetus.
