San Francisco Police Chief Frank Jordan’s brother has been accused by a police watchdog agency of interfering with the investigation into the beating of farm labor leader Dolores Huerta, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. The newspaper cited sources saying Deputy Chief John Jordan and two other officers have been charged by the Office of Citizen Complaints, the civilian-staffed agency that investigates complaints of police misconduct. The agency alleged that the deputy chief approved the removal of a document from the personnel file of an officer accused of beating and critically injuring the co-founder of the United Farm Workers union during a demonstration in September. The complaint now goes to the police chief, but Huerta’s backers are demanding that Jordan distance himself from the case. “It’s an obvious conflict of interest that no one in good conscience could deny,” said Huerta’s attorney, Dianna Lyons.
