$80-Million Project Under Way at USC

Construction is under way in Los Angeles on the $80-million USC University Hospital, a 275-bed hospital and ambulatory care center that will serve as an additional teaching and research facility for USC medical students and resident physicians.

The private hospital is part of the Richard K. Eamer Medical Plaza, which is being built and will be operated by Los Angeles-based National Medical Enterprises Inc. The project is located near County-USC Medical Center next to the USC Health Science Campus northeast of downtown Los Angeles.

When construction is completed in the spring of 1991, the plaza also will include an $8.6-million health-care consultation center and a $7.2-million parking structure.

Curt Schroeder, administrator of the new hospital, said its construction will not change USC’s relationship with County-USC Medical Center, where members of the medical school faculty teach.

National Medical Enterprises Inc. is the nation’s second-largest health care services company, with operations in 43 states, the District of Columbia and abroad, Schroeder said.
