Peruvian Rebels Attack Mine, Halt Production

Leftist guerrillas attacked one of the largest state-owned mines in the country, destroying machinery and forcing suspension of operations for six months, police said Saturday. Two mine workers were reported wounded.

About 100 guerrillas from the Maoist Shining Path group attacked the Morococha metals mine Friday, setting off dynamite that destroyed machinery, fuel tanks, electrical generators and electronic control panels, police said.
