I have had recent and sad occasion to use the services of those employees of Los Angeles who are at the other end of the 911 number.
The first to arrive was the Fire Department rescue unit, next came the police, then the detectives, the photographer, and the coroner.
I have never been in the company of a group of men whose behavior was more professional. They were caring, gentle, and considerate of my wife and me, and we are grateful to them.
Incidentally, my wife remarked that they were all as handsome as they were nice. I pointed out to her that one of “them” was a lady, and she was the most attractive of all. I was ignored.
The tragedy occurred at Camarillo-Lankershim in North Hollywood on July 3. We grieve for our loss but take some solace from the knowledge that they who have elected to serve us in the worst of circumstances do it so well.
