Ameritech: The Chicago-based telecommunications company’s second-quarter net income fell 9.8% from last year to $316.6 million. The 1988 quarter included a $42.1-million gain from the sale of its interest in Cantel, a Canadian cellular company. Excluding the gain, profit rose 2.3% in this year’s second quarter. Revenue rose 3.1% to $2.6 billion, reflecting strong business volumes and increases in customer telephone lines and cellular operations. Ameritech is the parent of Bell companies serving Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin, and other firms providing cellular communications, voice messaging, directories and lease financing.
