Thunderstorms brought more than 5 inches of rain to parts of Arkansas, triggering flash floods that closed highways and swept a woman to her death, authorities said. Arkansas state police said Patricia Ann Gardner, 38, of Copperas Cove, Tex., drove her car into water that covered Interstate 30, west of Little Rock. The car was swept about 1,000 feet away, off the highway and into a creek, killing Gardner. The Arkansas Office of Emergency Services said about 30 families were evacuated near the Pulaski-Saline County line because of flooding.
