Mike Powell, 1988 Olympic silver medalist in the men’s long jump, has withdrawn from Saturday’s inaugural New York Track and Field Games because of the death of his grandfather, a meet official said.

Powell had been scheduled to face Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis, who is unbeaten in the long jump in eight years, with a winning streak of 60.

The meet official also said today that Grace Jackson of Jamaica is out of the women’s 200 meters, Lane Lohr was added to the pole vault field and Lewis Johnson will be in the men’s 800 as the “rabbit,” or pacesetter.
