Friends and fans will pay last respects today to Donnie Ray Moore, the former Angels star pitcher who killed himself Tuesday after shooting his wife in front of their three children.

A visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Brown’s Colonial Mortuary, 204 W. 17th St., Santa Ana., said Randall Johnson, a spokesman for the Moore family.

Moore, 35, pitched two seasons for the Angels, and in 1985 set a club record by saving 31 games. But his career declined after the 1986 season, and he most recently was pitching for a farm team of the Kansas City Royals. That team released him last month, after which he returned to Anaheim and talked about moving back to his home state of Texas.

The Moore family was discussing selling their $850,000 house in the Anaheim Hills Tuesday afternoon when an argument erupted between him and his wife, Tonya Moore, 35. Donnie Moore shot her twice in the neck and chest, and then shot himself in the head, according to police reports.

Tonya Moore is recovering at Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Anaheim, where she was listed in fair condition on Friday. Their children, Demetria, 17; Donnie Jr., 10, and Ronnie, 7, were not injured.

Donnie Moore’s funeral will be in his hometown of Lubbock, Tex., Johnson said.
