A 24-year-old woman carrying a severely deformed fetus was left with a choice of a 250-mile trip to get an abortion or going to another state because of the Supreme Court’s ruling on Missouri’s abortion law, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported. In its ruling July 3, the U.S. Supreme Court said Missouri can bar public hospitals from performing abortions. Within hours, Truman Medical Center in Kansas City ordered its doctors to stop performing abortions. The nearest clinic in Missouri where the woman could have gotten the abortion was in St. Louis, 250 miles away. The woman was referred to a private clinic in Overland Park, Kan., about 20 miles away.
