WORLD : Cambodia Rejects Khmer Rouge

LA CELLE-ST. CLOUD, France — Cambodian Premier Hun Sen today rejected any role for the Khmer Rouge guerrillas in an interim government, saying giving them power “is to hold the people hostage.”
At a news conference after four hours of talks with resistance leader Prince Norodom Sihanouk, Hun Sen said the question of a role for the notorious Khmer Rouge remains the main sticking point in peace negotiations.
Sihanouk said his talks with Hun Sen ended in “complete disagreement.” The prince said he and his coalition, which includes the Khmer Rouge, will continue the fight against Hun Sen’s Vietnamese-backed government.
