Somali President Mohamed Siad Barre fired two Cabinet ministers, accusing them of anti-government activities, the official Sonna news agency reported. Maj. Gen. Aden Abdullahi Nur and Mohammed Abdulleh Baadleh, both ministers-without-portfolio, were charged with “activities inimical to the sovereignty, unity and security of the country.” Sonna gave no details, and it was not clear whether the charges were related to a reported crackdown that followed riots earlier this month, when security forces opened fire on Muslims in Mogadishu. The arrests of four Muslim clerics July 13 sparked rioting in the capital.
