GRAND OPENINGS : Sycamore Village Debuts in Simi

Share

Sycamore Village, a third community on the 4,000-acre master-planned Wood Ranch in Simi Valley, will open Saturday with 11 models representing housing prototypes by three builders.

Planned for 1,200 homes, the new community is themed around a 200-year-old, 100-foot-high sycamore tree. The natural landmark was saved and preserved when a major boulevard was routed around it.

The Wood Ranch developer, Olympia/Roberts Co., began implementing the Gold Nugget award-winning plan 10 years ago with a specific plan for 4,028 dwelling units in four villages.

The Wood Ranch development features a 7,000-yard, 18-hole championship Wood Ranch Golf Club designed by Ted Robinson, a 24-hour security patrol, a temporary fire station, expected to be in a permanent building next year, jogging and equestrian trails and a proposed child-care center. An elementary school will be part of the Sycamore Village community.

Coinciding with Sycamore Village’s opening is the start of grading on the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library, across the road and scheduled for completion in 1991, one year before the new village is built out.

Developers who will showcase their home models Saturday include Roberts Group VII, Shea Homes and J. M. Peters. For Shea Homes, this represents a first effort in Ventura County.

Roberts Group VII will develop three projects at Sycamore: Sycamore Hills, with a 122-home total in five phases and prices ranging from $265,900 to more than $339,900 and move-ins in September for the first 37 homes.

High Meadows will have 152 homes, selling from $310,900 to $410,900, with two-story plans up to 2,763 square feet and 5 bedrooms and 3 baths; September occupancy for the first 22 homes.

Ridgemont will release 20 homes of 75 homes in the first of four phases. Expected price range is $250,000 to $350,000 and sizes up to 1,934 square feet; first move-ins in December.
