A controversial advertisement that was being used to lure film makers to Washington State by proclaiming that “Debbie Could Have Done Dallas in Seattle” has been withdrawn because of objections from Seattle Police Chief Patrick Fitzsimons. “It was absolutely unnecessary to use a pornographic reference to lure business,” Fitzsimons said of the ad, which was placed in American Cinematographer magazine by the state Film and Video Office. “That particular film (“Debbie Does Dallas”) is very demeaning to women. It’s decadent.” Film bureau head Christine Lewis agreed to pull the quarter-page ad--at a cost of $600 to taxpayers. “I’m sorry I ran it,” she said. “We made an error of judgment and it won’t run again.
