Airline Crash in Sioux City
As a subscriber of many years, I’m aware that The Times is not perfect, but I was still put out more than somewhat by your reporters (Penelope McMillan and J. Michael Kennedy) who quoted a survivor of the crash as saying, “Then God opened up a hole in the basement (bottom of the plane) and I pushed a little girl out.” Your headline writers picked this up: “ ‘God Opened a Hole’ After Jet Landed Upside Down” (Part I, July 20).
What about the passengers for whom God did not open a hole? What about the passengers who perished? From your account, the survivors must conclude that God was not with those who died.
How thoughtless, how insensitive--and this from one who has serious doubt that there is a God.
