Fuel-Saving Engine: Australia’s Orbital Engine Co. announced plans to build a $250-million plant in Michigan to produce a new lightweight, fuel-saving two-stroke engine to power small cars and motorboats. Orbital said the new engine has significantly higher fuel economy and lower emissions than conventional engines. Analysts said the engine, which is set to show up first on autos built overseas, may power American cars in the mid-1990s if U.S. auto makers adopt the technology.
