SOUTHLAND : Man Missing Off Will Rogers Beach

A 20-year-old man on vacation from the Sacramento area disappeared during a predawn swim in the surf along Will Rogers State Beach today, prompting a search by lifeguards and a Coast Guard helicopter, authorities said.
The names of the missing man and his friend, also 20 and from the Sacramento area, were not immediately released. The two drove from their motel in Los Angeles to Will Rogers State Beach in Pacific Palisades early today and decided to go swimming about 4:45 a.m., county Lifeguard Lt. Randy DeGregori said. The man had been drinking heavily, his friend said.
