G’DAY AUSTRALIA
As a Los Angeles resident who has lived and worked in Australia, I take strong exception to the comments made by Dennis and Cathy Bramnick. Nouveau middle-class yuppies such as the Bramnicks who impress each other with their cellular-equipped German sedans should not attempt to impose a 19th-Century U.S. work ethic on a country that is not impressed with possessions. They are shocked to discover that employees do not work for minimum wage and have the audacity to take vacations. They think they have found their own kind at Circular Quay, but they are sadly mistaken, as yuppies will not find a welcome home in Australia.
All the Australians I met and worked with had nothing but praise for Americans. The only exceptions were reserved for those who tried to mold Australia into another America.
